Mirante News Radio is a prominent component of the Mirante System, the fourth largest integrated communication group in the Northeast and the largest in Maranhão. Since its inaugural broadcast on May 10, 1988, the station initially focused on music, featuring the most popular hits of that era. Over time, as listener expectations evolved, Mirante News transitioned to a more diverse programming format that includes comprehensive news coverage, service announcements, sports, music, and interactive content.

The slogan "The Radio of Maranhão" pays tribute to the dedicated team of announcers, operators, technicians, producers, and journalists who are fundamental to the quality of daily broadcasts and content. This team is rightly recognized as the best in Maranhão's radio landscape by industry professionals and local markets alike.

With its signal reaching a significant portion of Maranhão's territory, Mirante News Radio has its programming relayed by the Mirante SAT Network through 20 affiliated stations, effectively delivering news to 200 municipalities. Recognizing its extensive reach, Mirante News sought ways to measure its communication efforts and competitive standing. Consequently, in 1999, the station established a partnership with Ibope - Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and Statistics, one of Brazil’s most reputable research firms, to conduct periodic audience surveys. In the most recent assessment conducted in March 2009, the station reaffirmed its leadership with a 35.89% frequency share among all news stations in São Luís.

Mindful of the media convergence trend, Mirante News also ventured into the online space with its website, www.miranteam.com, launched in mid-2001. This initiative was warmly received as an opportunity to expand the radio's outreach and attract both listeners and internet users.
